AMERICA EAST RELEASE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Five student athletes from the University of New Hampshire men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams have been named to the America East All-Academic teams the conference announced Thursday.

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Nicole Lucey (Keene, N.H.), a back for the University of New Hampshire women’s soccer team, has recently been honored for her academic achievements in the classroom.
     Lucey was inducted into both the Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Delta Phi Honor Societies, along with being chosen as Student Fellow for the College of Liberal Arts. All such honors were based entirely on her academic success and were awarded through a highly selective process.

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire head football coach Sean McDonnell and his Wildcat football players will take time out from spring practice to host a bone marrow testing drive on Friday, May 9, 2008, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The event will be held in Lundholm Gymnasium at the Field House on the Durham campus. The test is a simple cheek swab and no blood or needles are involved. Event registration and testing take 20 minutes or less for each person.

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Athletic Department will purchase tickets for UNH students to attend the 2008 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship first round game at Boston University's Nickerson Field on Sunday, May 11 (12:00 p.m.).  Students will be required to present a valid UNH ID at BU on game day in order to receive their free ticket.

DURHAM, N.H. — The 13th-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team takes a 13-5 overall record into the 27th Annual NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship tournament. The Wildcats, who received one of the eight at-large bids for the tourney, travel to play seventh-seeded (and seventh-ranked) Boston University (17-2) for a May 11 first round game at BU’s Nickerson Field. The game, which will be videostreamed online at www.americaeast.com, begins as 12 p.m. In conjunction with Pack Network LLC, America East will provide the broadcast free of charge.
     New Hampshire is making its seventh overall NCAA tourney appearance –first since 2004, when the Wildcats gained an automatic berth as America East tournament champion. UNH’s other NCAA appearances were in 1991, 1987, 1986, 1985 and 1984; the ‘Cats won the NCAA title in 1985, and it is the school’s only NCAA national championship.

WESTLAKE, Ohio
– The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced that the University of New Hampshire ranks 81st out of 365 Division I schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings at the end of the winter sport season.
     The Wildcats have amassed 162 points, including the 25 points they tallied during the fall season. The ski team, which stands 11th overall, provided 57 points, while the third-ranked women’s hockey team supplied 55 points and the ninth-ranked men’s hockey team kicked in another 25.

INDIANAPOLIS – The 13th-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s lacrosse team received one of eight at-large bids to the 27th Annual NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will travel to play seventh-seeded Boston University in a May 11 first-round game, the selection committee announced Monday night. The game, which begins at 12 p.m., will be videostreamed live at www.americaeast.com. In conjunction with Pack Network LLC, America East will provide the broadcast free of charge.
      UNH, making its seventh NCAA tournament appearance, enters the NCAAs with a 13-5 overall record — the 13 wins ties the second-best single-season win total in the programs’ 32-year history, and four of the five losses were by one goal on the road. New Hampshire is making its first NCAA postseason appearance since 2004, when the Wildcats, who received automatic qualifier status as the America East champion, lost 14-12 at Dartmouth College. UNH won the national title in 1985 – it is the University’s only NCAA championship. The Wildcats advanced to the semifinals in 1991 and 1987 and exited in the first round in both 1986 and 1984.

DURHAM, N.H. — On Saturday May 10, at 3:30 pm in the Lundholm Gymnasium at the University of New Hampshire Field House, there will be a celebration of the life of Nate Hardy, a Navy SEAL who was killed in action in Iraq in early February. Nate entered the Navy after graduating from Oyster River High School in 1997. In his short career, he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, served in four SEAL team deployments, and earned numerous medals including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men's soccer head coach Rob Thompson has announced that Stephen Halvatzes (Merrimack, N.H.) and Patrick Ryan (Weymouth, Mass.) have committed to play for the Wildcats this spring. 
    Halvatzes attended Merrimack High School, where he was part of the 2007 NHIAA Class L state champion squad. Ryan, a 2007 graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, has been named an East Massachusetts and Catholic Conference All-Star in each of the past three seasons.
