A former Associate Director of
Athletics at Harvard University for six years who supervised nine
intercollegiate teams, served as liaison to the admissions office,
and oversaw athletics fundraising, Diane Metcalf
joined the Athletics Development team in November 2009 as the
Director of the Athletics Annual Fund. In this role, Metcalf
developed a compelling brand and case for support which resulted in
significant growth in both dollars and donors for The Wildcat
In 2012, Metcalf was named the Director of Athletics Development and was charged with leading the athletics fundraising team to develop and implement strategies for raising philanthropic support for the Department of Athletics. Today, she works closely with the director of athletics, coaches and volunteers to increase support in the areas of annual giving, major giving (endowed funds and capital projects), and planned giving. In addition, her responsibilities include the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication plan to reach current and prospective donors and the execution of an effective stewardship program, which includes donor recognition events and key engagement opportunities.
Metcalf graduated from the University of Michigan in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, where she was a four-year letter winner and two-year co-captain of the gymnastics team; she earned a master’s degree from American University in 1995. Metcalf’s early professional experience in intercollegiate athletics includes three years at the University of Michigan as a Manager of Events and Championships and four years at Dartmouth College as an Associate Director of Athletics.
