Tom Wilkins was elevated to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Media & Public Relations in the summer of 2012; he spent the previous three years as an assistant AD. He is beginning his seventh year with the Wildcats including six years in his current stay. Wilkins oversees the media & public relations office and serves as the primary contact for the men's hockey program. In addition, he is the executive producer of UNH Wildcat Productions, the athletic department's production entity that broadcasts over 100 live games, a monthly magazine show Inside Wildcat Country and countless video features.
In this most current stint, Wilkins came on board as Associate Director of Athletic Media Relations for three years from 2007-10. He was the primary contact for women's volleyball from 2007-10. Wilkins has been the men's hockey contact since his return in '07.
Wilkins, a member of CoSIDA, worked on successful Hobey Baker campaigns for Kevin Regan, Bobby Butler and Paul Thompson. All three candidates made it to the top 10 nationally, while Butler was selected to the Hobey Hat Trick as one of the award’s three finalists. In addition, Wilkins has helped promote the men's hockey team to nine All-America selections since 2007.
He served as Media Coordinator for the 2009 & 2011 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regional that was hosted by UNH at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. Additionally, Wilkins has worked with several other NCAA and conference championship events over his professional career. Wilkins will again be charged with the media oversight at the 2013 Northeast Regional in Manchester.
In his current role, Wilkins is charged with overseeing athletic public relations as part of the University’s public relations initiative, through feature stories, videos, social networking sites and other outreach projects. Wilkins has developed and designed a comprehensive video and television production program that includes the aforementioned video features, as well as video highlights, video replay and video streaming. He spoke at the 2012 College Sports Video Summit in Atlanta about UNH's HD television over IP cutting-edge technology.
Before returning to UNH, Wilkins served as Director of Communications for the America East Conference where he oversaw the promotion of all 20 of the conference’s sports.
Prior to his work at America East, Wilkins served as Assistant Sports Information Director for two years at Quinnipiac University (Hamden, Conn.). While there, he served as the primary contact for the Bobcats’ men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and golf teams.
Wilkins served as an Athletic Media Relations Assistant with UNH in 2003-04, when he worked as the primary contact for men’s soccer and men’s basketball, and assisted with various other sports.
A native of Pelham, N.H., Wilkins is a 2003 graduate of Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and History. In 2006, Wilkins earned his Master’s Degree in Interactive Communications at Quinnipiac. Wilkins resides in Pelham, N.H. with his wife Julie.
