CHANDLER, Ariz.Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.) and Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team were selected to the 2008 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Northeast Region First Team, the NFHCA announced Wednesday. UNH’s Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vermont) was a Second Team selection.
     UNH is the only America East conference member with multiple First Team honorees. Earlier this month, Craigue was named America East Offensive Player of the Year and she was joined on the All-Conference First Team by Shea. Frates was an All-Conference Second Team selection.
     UNH (9-11 overall, 3-2 America East) finished second in the regular-season standings and as runner-up in the conference tournament.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.), the America East Offensive Player of the Year, scored her 11th goal of the season, but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 2-1 by the University at Albany in the America East Championship title game Sunday afternoon at alumni field.
     UNH, which finished as league runner-up for the fourth time (1992, 1994, 2000, 2008), ends its season at 9-11. Albany, which defeated the Wildcats 3-1 in last week’s regular-season finale to claim the regular-season crown, is now 12-9 and advances to the NCAA tournament.

Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.) scored at 4:53 of overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to a 3-2 victory against the University of Maine in an America East Championship semifinal game at the University at Albany’s Alumni Field on Friday afternoon.
      UNH, seeded second in the tournament with a 3-2 league record, improved to 9-10 overall to advance to the Nov. 9 (1 p.m.) championship game against Albany, which defeated Boston University, 1-0, in the first semifinal game. Shea scored two goals and Kyle Lyons (White River Junction, Vt.) tallied her first collegiate goal to lead the attack. Jenna Lehman (Kingston, Pa.) was credited with 11 saves.

ALBANY, N.Y.Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.), a senior forward on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was named America East Offensive Player of the Year at Thursday night’s league banquet. Craigue was also a unanimous selection to the All-Conference First Team and was one of seven UNH Wildcats to receive all-conference recognition.
      Craigue was joined on the First Team by junior forward Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.), while junior back Cally Cooke (Newburyport, Mass.) and freshman forward Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) were Second Team selections. UNH had a league-high four representatives on the All-Rookie Team.  Frates, Kate Collins Smyth (Parteen, County Claire, Ireland), Kendall Deck (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Jenna Lehman (Kingston, Pa.) comprise that distinguished quartet.

DURHAM, N.H. —     The University of New Hampshire field hockey team enters the 2008 America East Field Hockey Championship as the #2 seed with an overall 8-10 record that included 3-2 in America East. The Wildcats will battle third-seeded Maine (6-10, 3-2) in a Nov. 7 semifinal game at the University at Albany’s Alumni Field; game time is 4 p.m.
      UNH has a 19-10 lifetime record, including this year’s 4-3 road win, against Maine. The Wildcats also won last year’s meeting, 2-1 in overtime. Maine won four straight vs. the ’Cats from the 2003-06 seasons. Each of the last four meetings – and 8 of the last 10–  have been decided by one goal.

– In a battle for the America East regular-season title, the University at Albany field hockey team converted all three of its first-half penalty corners into goals and the Great Danes defeated the University of New Hampshire, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
      UNH ends the regular season at 8-10 and 3-2 in America East. The Wildcats tied with the University of Maine and Boston University for second place in the league standings and earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of the third tiebreaker – conference goals scored (13 in comparison to Maine’s 11 and BU’s nine). The ‘Cats will play third-seeded Maine in a Nov. 7 semifinal at Albany, which enters the postseason at 10-9, 4-1.

. – Leah Boody (Ambesbury, Mass.) scored the game-tying goal and set up the game-winning goal to ignite the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Saturday afternoon’s 4-2 come-from-behind victory against Fairfield University in America East action. UNH clinched one of four berths in the America East Championship tournament with the win.
     UNH concludes the regular season Nov. 2 (12 p.m.) at home against Albany. The teams are tied for first place in the standings and the winner of that game will be the regular-season champion and play host to the America East Championship Tournament.

     UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in America East. The Wildcats conclude their non-conference slate Oct. 19 (3 p.m.) at 14th-ranked Boston College. UNH’s next home game is Senior Day against Albany on Nov. 2. Game time at Memorial Field is 12 p.m.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vermont), a freshman forward on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as Rookie of the Week by America East on Monday. Frates received the same distinction Sept. 8.
     Frates extended her point-scoring streak to six games with a goal against Dartmouth College on Oct. 8 and an assist on the game-winning goal Oct. 11 at Maine. The six-game streak is the longest by a Wildcat since 2003, when then-sophomore Katie White had a seven-game streak.
