DURHAM, N.H.--Junior tight end Scott Sicko (Stillwater, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was named an Associated Press FCS All-American in recognition of his outstanding 2008 campaign with the Wildcats. He was also named a Walter Camp All-American on Dec. 14.

Sicko, who was the only tight end named to the first team, finished the season as UNH’s second-leading receiver with 50 catches for 660 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games played. He averaged 13.6 yards per catch and recorded an average of 55.0 yards per game for the ‘Cats.

DURHAM, N.H.—University of New Hampshire head coach Sean McDonnell and three of his players will be honored on Thursday evening (Dec. 11) at the New England Football Writers Captains And Awards Banquet at Casa Di Fior in Wilmington, Mass.

McDonnell, who was named the Football Championship Subdivision Coach Of The Year, led his Wildcats to their fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA FCS Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals for the fourth time during that five-year span. McDonnell led UNH to a 10-3 campaign in 2008 and the CAA North Division title, just one victory shy of the school record 11 wins his Wildcats posted in 2005.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa —
A 36-yard interception return by Terrell McMoore in the third quarter proved to be the difference as No. 4 Northern Iowa escaped with a 36-34 win over the 10th-ranked University of New Hampshire football team in Saturday night’s NCAA FCS Championship quarterfinal action at UNI Dome.

The Wildcats, who have advanced to the quarterfinal round four times during their current streak of five-straight tournament appearances, ends the 2008 season with a 10-3 mark, while UNI, which advances to play Richmond in the national semifinals, improves to 12-2.

NORTHERN IOWA UP NEXT FOR WILDCATS IN NCAA FCS QUARTERFINAL CONTEST:  UNH and UNI are familiar with each other. The two teams have played twice in the NCAA FCS playoffs in the last three years and are going to make it a third  playoff battle in the span of the last four seasons.  Northern Iowa knocked off No. 1 seeded UNH in 2005 (24-21) in a quarterfinal game played in Durham, N.H. Last year, the two teams squared off in the first round and the Panthers came out on top on a late game-winning touchdown pass to post a 38-35 victory.

Senior kicker Tom Bishop (Newfield, N.Y.) booted a career-high five field goals to lead the University of New Hampshire football team to a 29-20 NCAA FCS First-Round victory at Southern Illinois on Saturday at McAndrew Stadium.

Southern Illinois took the early lead on a long, 12 play 68 yard drive when Kyle Dougherty booted a 47-yard field goal through the uprights at 8:23 of the first quarter.

UNH FOOTBALL MAKING ITS FIFTH CONSECUTIVE APPEARANCE IN THE NCAA FCS PLAYOFFS AND SEVENTH OVERALL:  The University of New Hampshire football team will be making its fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Division I Championship Playoffs on Sat., Nov. 29, when the Wildcats travel to play Southern Illinois in a first round matchup. Game time is 1 p.m. CT at McAndrew Stadium in Carbondale, Ill. The Wildcats gathered in their locker room on Sunday evening and learned of their first-round matchup as it was announced live on ESPNU. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and the Salukis of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. SIU won a share of the MVFC title and clinched the league's automatic postseason berth when it beat Illinois State on Nov. 22 (17-10).

PHILADELPHIA- Junior defensive back Terrence Klein (Westwood, N.J.) was named Sports Network National Defensive Player of the Week and CAA Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts in UNH’s 28-24 victory at Maine. The win clinched the CAA North Division title for the Wildcats.

Klein recorded two key interceptions on the day, catapulting the Wildcats to their fifth straight berth in the postseason. Both of Klein's picks came in the fourth quarter as the Black Bears were trying to assemble game-winning drives.  The first came with 3:02 left in the game, halting a two-play Maine drive inside Black Bear territory. After a UNH punt on the ensuing possession, Klein again single-handedly stopped a Maine drive by intercepting a pass inside of New Hampshire territory with just 18 seconds left in the game. The junior finished the day with three total tackles to go with the two game-saving interceptions.
