UNH won its eighth consecutive season opener and is now unbeaten in 12 straight season openers (11-0-1). Wisconsin is 0-2-0 on the year.

DeSimone tallied two goals and an assist while LeBlanc finished with a goal and two assists and van Riemsdyk had three assists. Bobby Butler (Marlboro, Mass.; two goals), Mike Sislo (Superior, Wisc.; goal, assist) and Joe Charlebois (Potsdam, N.Y.; two assists) also finished with multiple points. Thomas Fortney (Webster Grove, Mo.) and Alan Thompson (Gilford, N.H.) accounted for UNH’s other goals and five ‘Cats tallied single assists.

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was picked to third in the Hockey East preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was announced on Monday afternoon at the league’s annual media day at Legends Restaurant at the TD Banknorth Garden.
The Wildcats garnered 78 points in the poll and received one first-place vote, which was good enough for third place outdistancing fourth-place Northeasrtern by 16 points. UNH is just eight points behind defending National Champion Boston College (86) and two behind Boston University (80). The ‘Cats have captured back-to-back regular-season titles by posting a combined 37-12-5 record in league play over the past two season, including a program-best 19 wins last season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team, which won back-to-back Hockey East regular season titles in 2007 and 2008, received 287 total points to rank seventh in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Preseason Poll that was released Monday.
UNH, which ended the 2008 season ranked at No. 6 and advanced to NCAA postseason play for the seventh consecutive year, plays St. Francis Xavier in an Oct. 4 exhibition game at the Whittemore Center. The Wildcats open the 2008-09 season October 11 at home against 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin. Both games begin at 7p.m.

DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire athletic department released the nine names of those being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2008. The announcement was made today by UNH Director of Athletics Marty Scarano.
The inductees will be honored on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at the Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Huddleston Hall. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.
This year’s class includes;Ty Conklin ’01 (men’s ice hockey), Grover Daniels ’79 (men’s skiing), Stacy Fimple-Glidden ’96 (Field Hockey), David Gamble ’93 (football), Theresa Redmond-Stevens ’83 (women’s basketball), Mary Beth Sydlowski-Pichette ’92 (women’s soccer), Kate Scanlon-Gehn ’92 (women’s crew), Ian Smith ’99 (men’s swimming), and David O’Connor ’66 (football and hockey), who is the winner of the Leitzel Award.

According to Dot Sheehan, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, “Each year a very limited number of seats become available for sale. As in the past 6 years, this offering is extremely popular, and members of the Varsity Club continue to be very happy with the amenities and yearly added value items.
