DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire athletic department released the nine names of those being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2008. The announcement was made today by UNH Director of Athletics Marty Scarano.
    The inductees will be honored on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at the Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Huddleston Hall. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.
This year’s class includes;Ty Conklin ’01 (men’s ice hockey), Grover Daniels ’79 (men’s skiing), Stacy Fimple-Glidden ’96 (Field Hockey), David Gamble ’93 (football), Theresa Redmond-Stevens ’83 (women’s basketball), Mary Beth Sydlowski-Pichette ’92 (women’s soccer), Kate Scanlon-Gehn ’92 (women’s crew), Ian Smith ’99 (men’s swimming), and David O’Connor ’66 (football and hockey), who is the winner of the Leitzel Award.

DURHAM, N.H. — The Friends of UNH hockey have announced the fourth-annual Reunion hockey game on Sunday, August 3rd at the Whittemore Center in Durham. The game will feature former Wildcats from all eras of UNH hockey. Previous years have been highlighted by the return of current and former NHL players, including Andy Brickley, Bruce Crowder, Peter Douris, Darren Haydar and Mark Mowers, as well as NHL Hall of Fame defenseman Rod Langway.

DURHAM, N.H.--The University of New Hampshire announced today that Learfield Sports has selected WGIR-AM 610 to expand the coverage of Wildcat athletics in southern New Hampshire.  Beginning with the 2008-’09 athletic season, 610 AM will begin airing all regular-season and post-season men’s hockey and football broadcasts as well as a select number of men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s hockey broadcasts.  Additionally, the Clear Channel Radio-owned station will air all football and men’s hockey coaches’ show broadcasts on Monday nights during the season and “Wildcat Sports Today”.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - James van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) and Blake Kessel (Madison, Wis.) of the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team were among a select group of 53 players from 17 states that have been invited to the 2008 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 1-9 The announcement was made on June 16 by USA Hockey. Participating players are candidates for the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2008-Jan. 5, 2009, in Ottawa, Ontario.

ROSEMONT, Ill.
— Jason Krog’s four-point night included his second hat trick of the postseason and propelled the Chicago Wolves to the American Hockey League’s 2008 Calder Cup championship with a 5-2 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before 9,808 fans at Allstate Arena on Tuesday night. Krog and his Wolves' teammate Darren Haydar were both products of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team.

The Wolves, top development team of the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers, defeated the Penguins four games to two to win their second AHL title and first since 2002.

DURHAM, N.H. — The Dick Umile Hockey School still has openings for the week of July 28-August 1 for boys and girls ages 7-14.  The day camp features hockey instruction by UNH Hockey coaches and current and former players.  Campers will receive 2 1/2 hours of on-ice instruction each day as well as off-ice skill sessions.

DURHAM, N.H. — As a result of declining external funding support and rising production costs, the University of New Hampshire Athletic Department and New Hampshire Public Television (NHPTV) announced today that UNH men’s ice hockey games will not be broadcast on NHPTV during the 2008-2009 season.

The athletic department is looking into other options to air as many games as possible during the 2008-09 season. The Wildcats will once again be part of Hockey East’s Friday Night Hockey game package. Over the past five years, NHPTV has typically aired 10 live home games each season from the Whittemore Center Arena, and offered live and archived webcasts of those games.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Hockey East Association announced Friday, June 6 that the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey program placed seven of its student-athletes on the 91-player Hockey East All-Academic Team.

Senior defenseman Brad Flaishans (Glendale, Ariz.) headlines the group as he became one of just four Wildcats to be chosen as a four-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection, joining David Busch, Jason Krog and Chad Onufrechuk. Flaishans had a perfect 4.0 GPA in both semesters, which helped him earn the Top Scholar Athlete award and a spot on the six-player Hockey East Academic All-Star Team. Flaishans was also honored by the league as he earned “Distinguished Scholar” status given to those student-athletes, who achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four seasons.

ROSEMONT, Ill. — In less than six minutes' time on Sunday afternoon, Chicago Wolves captain and former UNH men's hockey player Darren Haydar became the all-time leading goal scorer and the all-time leading point getter in American Hockey League Calder Cup Playoffs history.

Haydar scored on a breakaway at 7:35 of the first period, his 52nd career AHL postseason goal. That broke the record of 51 goals previously held by AHL Hall of Famer and current Rochester Americans general manager Jody Gage.

2008-09 Schedule
DURHAM, N.H.
— Dick Umile, head coach of the University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team, recently announced the team’s schedule for the 2008-09 season.

Last season, UNH captured its second-consecutive Hockey East regular-season title and set a program record for Hockey East wins with 19. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh-straight season, a feat accomplished by only UNH, Michigan and Minnesota. The Wildcats will open the 2008-09 season at home with an exhibition match against St. Francis Xavier on Oct. 4 (7 p.m.) and will officially kick off the regular season on Oct. 11 (7 p.m.) at the Whittemore Center against WCHA-power Wisconsin, a team that has earned four consecutive NCAA berths during homecoming weekend.
