NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) matched her career highs in goals (two), assists (two) and points (four) to lead the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team to Saturday afternoon’s 5-3 non-conference victory against Niagara University at Dwyer Arena.
Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was the other Wildcat to finish with multiple points on a one-goal, two-assist performance, and she recorded her 150th career point on the last of her three points. Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) and Kelly Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) netted UNH’s other goals. Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 11 of her 21 saves in the first period.

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire women’s hockey team, ranked No. 4 in both of this week’s national polls, makes its first road trip of the season this weekend with a two-game series at Niagara University on Oct. 11-12. Both games begin at 2 p.m and they will be broadcast online at Yahoo.com. UNH (0-0-1) and Niagara (0-2-0) are looking for their first win of the season.
UNH has an 18-3-0 lifetime record, including 8-2-0 on the road, against Niagara. The Wildcats have won 12 straight in the series, and that includes four road games. In the most recent trip to Dwyer Ice Arena (Oct. 2005), the ‘Cats recorded 6-0 and 8-2 victories.

DURHAM, N.H. – Micaela Long (South Boston, Mass.) netted a third-period power-play goal to lift the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team to Wednesday night’s 2-2 Hockey East tie against 10th-ranked Boston College at the Whittemore Center.
In the first shootout in the history of Women’s Hockey East – the league implemented the system this season – senior defenseman and captain Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) scored in the fifth round to give UNH the 1-0 shootout victory. The game is officially a tie for both teams and there are no individual statistics awarded, but the Wildcats gain an extra point in the league standings for the shootout win.

The Wildcats return 12 letterwinners — including a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top 10 Finalist (Sam Faber), Hockey East Scoring Champion (Jenn Wakefield) and Hockey East Goaltending Champion (Kayley Herman) — from last year's team that finished 33-4-1 overall and 20-0-1 in Hockey East.

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, which has won five consecutive Hockey East regular-season titles as well as three straight league tournament championships, has been selected as the preseason favorite in 2009 according to the Hockey East Preseason Coaches Poll that was released at the league’s Media Day on Monday. This marks the fifth straight year that UNH tops the league’s preseason poll.

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior assistant captain Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) and sophomore Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontairo) both recorded four points to propel the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team to Friday night’s 7-0 exhibition victory against the Brampton Jr. Thunder at the Whittemore Center.
Taylor recorded two goals and two assists while Wakefield, who led last year’s team in goals, finished with one goal and three assists. Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), another senior assistant captain, junior Kelly Paton (Woodstock, Ontario) and Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ontario) – another sophomore – each finished with one goal and two assists for the Wildcats. Junior Micaela Long (South Boston, Mass.) accounted for UNH’s other points with one goal and one assist.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, which won its fifth consecutive Hockey East regular-season crown and third straight league tournament title in 2008, garnered 125 total points to rank No. 4 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women’s College Hockey Preseason Poll that was released Tuesday.
New Hampshire plays an exhibition game Sept. 26 against Brampton (Provincial Women’s Hockey League) at the Whittemore Center. The Wildcats open the 2008-09 season Oct. 8 at home against Hockey East rival Boston College. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), a senior defenseman and captain of the 2009 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named to the U.S. Women’s Select Team by USA Hockey on Wednesday.
Bellamy, one of 18 members on the 22-player roster who won a gold medal at the 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women’s Championship in April, will compete at the Women’s Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., from Nov. 4-9 against Sweden, Canada and Finland.

CALGARY, Alberta – Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ontario), Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) – all of whom will be sophomores on the 2008-09 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team – are among 40 athletes who have been invited to the National Women's Under-22 Team selection camp from Aug. 10-17 at York University in Toronto. The announcement was made Tuesday by Hockey Canada.
Birchard and Wakefield were part of last year’s National Women’s Under-22 Team that finished with a 7-0 record – the first perfect season in the history of the U-22 program – and won a gold medal at the European Air Canada Cup. In that tournament, Wakefield recorded two goals and four assists while Birchard tallied three points. All three UNH Wildcats competed at last year’s selection camp.

DURHAM, N.H.--The University of New Hampshire announced today that Learfield Sports has selected WGIR-AM 610 to expand the coverage of Wildcat athletics in southern New Hampshire. Beginning with the 2008-’09 athletic season, 610 AM will begin airing all regular-season and post-season men’s hockey and football broadcasts as well as a select number of men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s hockey broadcasts. Additionally, the Clear Channel Radio-owned station will air all football and men’s hockey coaches’ show broadcasts on Monday nights during the season and “Wildcat Sports Today”.
