CALGARY, Alberta – Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ontario), Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) – all of whom will be sophomores on the 2008-09 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team – are among 40 athletes who have been invited to the National Women's Under-22 Team selection camp from Aug. 10-17 at York University in Toronto. The announcement was made Tuesday by Hockey Canada.
Birchard and Wakefield were part of last year’s National Women’s Under-22 Team that finished with a 7-0 record – the first perfect season in the history of the U-22 program – and won a gold medal at the European Air Canada Cup. In that tournament, Wakefield recorded two goals and four assists while Birchard tallied three points. All three UNH Wildcats competed at last year’s selection camp.

DURHAM, N.H.--The University of New Hampshire announced today that Learfield Sports has selected WGIR-AM 610 to expand the coverage of Wildcat athletics in southern New Hampshire. Beginning with the 2008-’09 athletic season, 610 AM will begin airing all regular-season and post-season men’s hockey and football broadcasts as well as a select number of men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s hockey broadcasts. Additionally, the Clear Channel Radio-owned station will air all football and men’s hockey coaches’ show broadcasts on Monday nights during the season and “Wildcat Sports Today”.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), both of whom will be seniors on the 2008-09 University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, were named to the U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team, USA Hockey announced Thursday. Both Bellamy and Faber were on last year’s U.S. Under-22 Select Team and the U.S. Women’s National Team, which captured gold at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.
Bellamy, Faber and the other 20 members of this year’s team will participate in both the 2008 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., and the 2008 Under-22 Series against Canada in Pierrefonds, Quebec, in August.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Women’s Hockey East Association announced the selection of 12 student-athletes from the regular-season and tournament champion University of New Hampshire team to the 2007-08 All-Academic Team on Thursday; a total of 81 student-athletes were honored by the league.
Senior defensemen Martine Garland (Toronto, Ontario) and Diana Saly (Edina, Minn.) were named to the All-Academic Team for the fourth time to receive the title of Distinguished Scholars (minimum 3.0 grade-point-average every semester in all four years). Saly has been selected to the league’s All-Academic Team each of the past four years, whereas Garland was feted in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Maggie Joyce (Hudson, Ohio), both of whom competed as junior defensemen on the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team in 2008, were named to the roster for the Women’s Under-22 Camp by USA Hockey on Monday. Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), a junior forward, was invited to the Camp that will be held June 24–July 1 at Lake Placid, N.Y., but is unable to attend.
Bellamy and Joyce are two of 34 players who will be vying for the 22 spots on the 2008 U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team that will participate in the USA Hockey Women’s National Festival in August as well as the Under-22 Series vs. Canada. Faber will still be under consideration for the Select Team. Both Faber and Bellamy were members of the U.S. Women’s National Team that captured a gold medal at the 2008 IIHF Word Women’s Championship.

CALGARY, Alberta – Courtney Birchard (Mississauga, Ontario), Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) and Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) – all of whom were freshman on the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team in 2008 – were recently selected by Hockey Canada to participate in the Under-22 strength and conditioning/skating camp that will be held May 28-31 at Calgary’s Father David Bauer Olympic Arena.
These three UNH skaters are among 51 overall players selected. Birchard and Wakefield – both forwards – were members of the 2007-08 National Women’s Under-22 Team that won a goal medal at the Air Canada Cup in Germany in January of this year. Wakefield has also competed on the National Women’s Team.

WESTLAKE, Ohio – The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced that the University of New Hampshire ranks 81st out of 365 Division I schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings at the end of the winter sport season.
The Wildcats have amassed 162 points, including the 25 points they tallied during the fall season. The ski team, which stands 11th overall, provided 57 points, while the third-ranked women’s hockey team supplied 55 points and the ninth-ranked men’s hockey team kicked in another 25.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey program lauded the accomplishments of the 2008 Wildcat team, which was one of the most successful teams in the program’s storied history, and its student-athletes at the annual team banquet that was recently held at the Whittemore Center. Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was the recipient of the Karyn Bye Award as the team MVP, Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) received the Colleen Coyne Award as the top defenseman and Sadie Wright-Ward (Durham, N.H.) was honored with the Tricia Dunn Award as the top defensive forward.

HARBIN, China and MISKOLC, Hungary –– Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team won a gold medal as members of the U.S. Women’s National Team at the IIHF World Women’s Championship Division I on April 12, while fellow UNH Wildcat Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) led Great Britain to a gold medal in Division III that same day. Twin sisters Julia and Stefanie Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) led the Swiss national team to the bronze medal game – the nation’s first appearance in a medal game – in the Division I tourney, but Finland captured the bronze with a 4-1 victory.
Bellamy tallied a pair of assists in the gold-medal game for the U.S., while Taylor lifted Great Britain to gold with a late game-tying goal and the only score in the shootout.

BOSTON — Senior Martine Garland (Toronto, Ontario), juniors Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and freshman Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) were named to the 2007-08 New England Div. I Women’s Hockey All-Star Team, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced Thursday afternoon.
UNH, with four student-athletes on the team, had the highest number of honorees. Garland received New England All-Star Team accolades for the third consecutive year and Faber is a repeat honoree from 2007.
