DURHAM, N.H. – James van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) and Paul Thompson (Derry, N.H.) netted second-period goals 39-second apart to propel the seventh-ranked University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team to Saturday night’s 5-1 non-conference victory against 14th-ranked University of Wisconsin at the Whittemore Center. UNH won its eighth consecutive season opener and is now unbeaten in 12 straight season openers (11-0-1). Wisconsin is 0-2-0 on the year.

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior Lindsay Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) posted a match-high 14 kills, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team dropped Saturday afternoon’s 3-1 decision to America East foe Binghamton University at West Gym. The match scores were 25-18, 21-25, 21-25, 22-25. The Wildcats fall to 3-16 on the season, including 0-3 in America East play, while the Bearcats move to 9-11 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

DURHAM, N.H.- Kyle Urso (Lombard, Ill.) recorded four shots on goal for the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team, but a nine save effort by Albany’s Ceus Steward allowed for a 2-0 Albany win on Saturday evening.
With the loss, their first at home this season, the Wildcats fall to 6-3-2, 1-2-0 in America East, while the Great Danes improve to 8-3-0, 2-1-0 in conference play.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ontario) matched her career highs in goals (two), assists (two) and points (four) to lead the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team to Saturday afternoon’s 5-3 non-conference victory against Niagara University at Dwyer Arena.
Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was the other Wildcat to finish with multiple points on a one-goal, two-assist performance, and she recorded her 150th career point on the last of her three points. Angela Taylor (Paisley, Scotland) and Kelly Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) netted UNH’s other goals. Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) made 11 of her 21 saves in the first period.

ORONO, Maine – Sarah Craigue (Concord, N.H.) scored a career-high three goals to propel the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Saturday afternoon’s 4-3 America East victory against the University of Maine at the Maine Field Hockey complex.
Craigue’s six points also marked a personal best and Kate Collins Smyth (Parteen, County Claire, Ireland) recorded her first multiple-assist game with two. UNH goalkeeper Jenna Lehman (Kingston, Pa.) finished with 13 saves, her second-highest total of the season. UM’s Brittany Fleck stopped seven shots.

DURHAM, N.H. – Jake Phillips’ 17-yard touchdown pass to D.J. McAulay with 22 seconds remaining lifted the William & Mary football team to Saturday afternoon’s 38-34 victory against fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire in front 13,255 Homecoming Day fans at UNH’s Cowell Stadium.
UNH fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the CAA while the Tribe improved to 3-2, 1-1.
Trailing 34-31, W&M began the game-winning drive at its 28 yard-line with 4:34 on the clock. On 3rd-and-11, a Hugo Souza (Marshfield, Mass.) interception was negated by a roughing the passer infraction against the Wildcats that gave the Tribe 1st-and-10 at the 42. The visitors converted two more 3rd-and-long situations to advance the ball to the UNH 36. Three plays later, on 1st and 10 from the 17, Phillips eluded the pass rush, stepped up to the line of scrimmage and lofted a pass complete to McAulay at the left pylon for the touchdown. Brian Pate’s PAT made the score 38-34.

UNH FOOTBALL OFF TO GREAT START: The UNH football team is undefeated at 4-0, after beating Dartmouth, 42-6. UNH is also in first place in the CAA North Division, only two wins away from the 500th win in program history, and recently enjoyed an off-week in which the team rested and saw some injuries heal. But now the schedule gets tougher with nothing but CAA opponents on the horizon and it all starts this Saturday when UNH entertains William & Mary on Homecoming weekend in Durham.
