DURHAM, N.H.Tom Wilkins (Assumption ’03) has been promoted to the University of New Hampshire athletic department’s Assistant Athletic Director for Media & Public Relations, the UNH athletic department announced Monday afternoon.

"I am extremely pleased to have Tom lead this new effort that combines media, public relations and multimedia,” Dot Sheehan Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations said. “He has the expertise, personality and management skills to make athletics very successful.”

Wilkins, who served as the Interim Director of Athletic Media Relations for the past month, was officially named to the post after serving as the Associate Director of Athletic Media Relations for the previous three years. In his second stint with the Wildcats, Wilkins has served as the liaison for both the men’s hockey and women’s volleyball teams.

Wilkins recently worked on a successful Hobey Baker campaign for Bobby Butler, who was selected to the Hobey Hat Trick as one of the award’s three finalists. He also served as Media Coordinator for the 2009 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Northeast Regional that was hosted by UNH at the Verizon Wireless Arena and worked with several other NCAA and conference championship events over his professional career.

“I am extremely excited about the new opportunity of heading up the UNH athletic department's media and public relations office,” Wilkins said. “I am truly grateful to Marty Scarano, Dot Sheehan and the administration for choosing me for this position. University of New Hampshire athletics are definitely a source of personal pride and I am genuinely excited for the opportunity to head up the department's new public relations initiatives.”

In his new role, Wilkins will be charged with overseeing athletic public relations as part of the University’s public relations initiative, through feature stories, videos, social networking sites and other outreach projects. Wilkins will also develop and design a comprehensive video production program that will include the aforementioned video features, as well as video highlights, video replay and video streaming.

Before returning to UNH, Wilkins served as Director of Communications for the America East Conference where he oversaw the promotion of all 20 of the conference’s sports.

Prior to his work at America East, Wilkins served as Assistant Sports Information Director for two years at Quinnipiac University (Hamden, Conn.). While there, he served as the primary contact for the Bobcats’ men’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and golf teams.

Wilkins served as an Athletic Media Relations Assistant with UNH in 2003-04, when he worked as the primary contact for men’s soccer and men’s basketball, and assisted with various other sports.

A native of Pelham, N.H., Wilkins is a 2003 graduate of Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and History. In 2006, Wilkins earned his Master’s Degree in Interactive Communication at Quinnipiac. Wilkins resides in Hudson, N.H. with his wife Julie.
