Athletic Communications Staff Changes Announced

DURHAM, N.H.  – Marty Scarano, the University of New Hampshire Director of Athletics, announced Thursday that Mike Murphy has been promoted to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Communications, effective immediately.

The department also announced Connor Meiselman has been hired as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. In addition, Alex Comeau has been transitioned to the primary contact for the men’s ice hockey program.

“We are thrilled to have Mike in the lead role in Athletic Communications,” said Dot Sheehan, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. “He has the experience, credibility and respect from coaches, staff, media and everyone he deals with. He has the kind of tenacity and work ethic that ensures success. Quite simply, Mike has the ‘it’ factor.”

Murphy joined the UNH athletic communications staff in June 2010 as an associate director. Since then, he has served as the primary media contact for the Wildcats’ football, gymnastics and skiing programs. He was added as secondary contact to the men’s ice hockey program prior to the start of the 2013-14 season. Murphy also serves as host of Inside Wildcat Country, which is a monthly program that airs on WBIN-TV.

Murphy was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) co-Administrator of the Year in 2013.

A five-time winner of the New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year award (1998, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009), Murphy has served as a sports announcer on the Wildcat Sports Radio Network since 1998. He is the host of the UNH Coach’s Show, a play-by-play broadcaster of select Wildcat men’s and women's hockey broadcasts and color commentator for men's and women's basketball broadcasts. Previously, Mike served as the color commentator for all UNH football games from 1998-2009.

Prior to joining the UNH athletic department, Murphy served as the Director of Media Relations and Ticket Sales Executive for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Double-A affiliate located in Manchester, from 2006-10.

Murphy, feted as the 2008 New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters Air Personality of the Year, was part of the Fisher Cats Radio Network broadcast team from the minor league baseball team's inception in 2004 through 2010. He was also bestowed the 2008 AP Top Play-by-Play Award and is a 12-time recipient of the NHAB Golden Mike Award.

Meiselman will serve as the primary contact for the men’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs. He graduated from UNH in 2012 with a degree in Kinesiology: Sport Studies with a primary focus in media relations. During his senior year, Meiselman interned in the athletic communications office, where he assisted with field hockey, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and lacrosse. He was among the media relations staff that covered the 2012 Frozen Fenway event.

Prior to rejoining the Wildcats, Meiselman spent the 2012-13 season with Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. He was the primary contact for the men’s ice hockey, women’s track and field, baseball and softball programs. He also served as the secondary media contact for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Comeau, a 2011 graduate of Husson College (Bangor, Maine), joined the athletic communications office in spring 2012. He is currently the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer in addition to men’s ice hockey. Last year, Comeau was also the contact for the women’s ice hockey team and was the liaison to the cross country and track programs prior to the addition of Meiselman to the staff. Prior to joining the UNH staff, he spent the 2011-12 season at the University of Maine.
