STOWE, Vt. – Steven Bedard (Cheshire, Mass.) and Dylan McGuffin (Northfield, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire ski team both recorded a fourth-place finish at the TD Banknorth Eastern Cup Opener, which was held Dec. 20-21 at the Trapp Family Lodge.
Bedard earned his distinction in the Men Sprint race and teammate Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.) was 12th. McGuffin earned fourth place in the Men Distance competition and Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine) followed in 14th. In the Women' Distance, Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) finished 11th overall.

PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. – Both Dan Guiney (Park City, Utah) and Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire ski team raced to victory at the Atomic Sprints at Great Glen, which opened the New England race season Dec. 6 on Geepers Loop at Great Glen Trails.
Fellow UNH Wildcats Steven Bedard (Cheshire, Mass.) and Kathryn Walsh (Stillwater, Minn.) also advanced through the qualifying and subsequent heats to advance to the final race.

DURHAM, N.H. – The Seventh Annual Ski Sale at the University of New Hampshire will be held Oct. 26 – the Sunday of Parents’ Weekend – at the UNH Field House from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The huge inventory will include new and used equipment such as skis, boards, skates and apparel. There will also be a free raffle for NH ski area tickets. The public is invited to bring equipment to sell; all items must be brought into the Field House on the day of the event between 8-9:30 a.m. to be included as part of the Seventh Annual Ski Sale.

DURHAM, N.H.—The University of New Hampshire athletic department released the nine names of those being inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2008. The announcement was made today by UNH Director of Athletics Marty Scarano.
The inductees will be honored on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at the Hall of Fame Banquet, which will be held in Huddleston Hall. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.
This year’s class includes;Ty Conklin ’01 (men’s ice hockey), Grover Daniels ’79 (men’s skiing), Stacy Fimple-Glidden ’96 (Field Hockey), David Gamble ’93 (football), Theresa Redmond-Stevens ’83 (women’s basketball), Mary Beth Sydlowski-Pichette ’92 (women’s soccer), Kate Scanlon-Gehn ’92 (women’s crew), Ian Smith ’99 (men’s swimming), and David O’Connor ’66 (football and hockey), who is the winner of the Leitzel Award.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire ski team recently held its annual team banquet at which the program recognized the accomplishments of the 2008 team, which placed 11th at the NCAA Skiing Championships, and its student-athletes.
The Point Champion of each discipline – Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec; women’s alpine), Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.; men’s alpine), Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.;women’s Nordic) and Dylan McGuffin (Northfield, N.H.; men’s Nordic) – earned team MVP honors. It marked the second consecutive year that Archambault-Leger, Ford and Wright received that distinction.

WESTLAKE, Ohio – The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced that the University of New Hampshire ranks 81st out of 365 Division I schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings at the end of the winter sport season.
The Wildcats have amassed 162 points, including the 25 points they tallied during the fall season. The ski team, which stands 11th overall, provided 57 points, while the third-ranked women’s hockey team supplied 55 points and the ninth-ranked men’s hockey team kicked in another 25.

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine -- A total of seven Nordic skiers on the University of New Hampshire ski team were named New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Development Team nominees, the organization announced recently.
Natasha Kullas (Timmins, Ontario) and Katie Miller (Lenox, Mass.) were named to the OJ Girls team while Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.) was selected to the OJ Boys team. Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and Heather Zimmerman (Bethel, Maine) received U-23 Women accolades and Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine) was a U-23 Men selection. Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.) rounded out the UNH contingent with selection to the Collegiate Women squad.

DURHAM, N.H. – Led by three-time All-American Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), a total of eight University of New Hampshire skiers were named to the NCAA All-Academic Team earlier this month. McNamara has been selected to the NCAA All-Academic Team all three years as a UNH Wildcat.
Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec), Cynthia Tessier (Ste Julienne, Quebec) and Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) were UNH’s other repeat selections from the 2007 NCAA All-Academic Team. The Wildcats’ first-time honorees were Emily Capaul (Campton, N.H.), Emily Eastman (Intervale, N.H.), Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) and Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine).

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Katie Miller (Lenox, Mass.) and Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.), both of whom competed as freshmen on the University of New Hampshire ski team in 2008, recently competed at the U.S. Junior National competition.
Miller competed in the Olympic Junior Girls 18-19 year old 5K freestyle race and completed the course in 16 minutes, 54.3 seconds to finish in fourth place. Harb raced in the Olympic Junior Boys 18-19 year old 10K freestyle event and was timed in 29:55.2 to finish in 16th place.

Ottawa, Ontario) raced to a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s women’s slalom to earn All-America accolades in the final day of competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships at the
University of Montana’s Bridger Bowl.
UNH finished with a four-day total of 286 points to place 11
th in the national championship, which featured 21 teams;
New Hampshire also finished 11
th in the ’07 NCAAs. The Wildcats’ men’s and women’s alpine squads each recorded the third-best team score in Saturday’s slalom races. All three women finished in the top 20 to earn 85 points while the men had two skiers in the top 15 and amassed 70 points.
