DURHAM, N.H.  – The Seventh Annual Ski Sale at the University of New Hampshire will be held Oct. 26 – the Sunday of Parents’ Weekend – at the UNH Field House from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
      The huge inventory will include new and used equipment such as skis, boards, skates and apparel. There will also be a free raffle for NH ski area tickets. The public is invited to bring equipment to sell; all items must be brought into the Field House on the day of the event between 8-9:30 a.m. to be included as part of the Seventh Annual Ski Sale.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire ski team recently held its annual team banquet at which the program recognized the accomplishments of the 2008 team, which placed 11th at the NCAA Skiing Championships, and its student-athletes.
      The Point Champion of each discipline – Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec; women’s alpine), Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.; men’s alpine), Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.;women’s Nordic) and Dylan McGuffin (Northfield, N.H.; men’s Nordic) –  earned team MVP honors. It marked the second consecutive year that Archambault-Leger, Ford and Wright received that distinction.

STANDINGS

WESTLAKE, Ohio
– The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced that the University of New Hampshire ranks 81st out of 365 Division I schools in the NACDA Directors’ Cup standings at the end of the winter sport season.
     The Wildcats have amassed 162 points, including the 25 points they tallied during the fall season. The ski team, which stands 11th overall, provided 57 points, while the third-ranked women’s hockey team supplied 55 points and the ninth-ranked men’s hockey team kicked in another 25.

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine --  A total of seven Nordic skiers on the University of New Hampshire ski team were named New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Development Team nominees, the organization announced recently.
      Natasha Kullas (Timmins, Ontario) and Katie Miller (Lenox, Mass.) were named to the OJ Girls team while Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.) was selected to the OJ Boys team. Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and Heather Zimmerman (Bethel, Maine) received U-23 Women accolades and Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine) was a U-23 Men selection. Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.) rounded out the UNH contingent with selection to the Collegiate Women squad.

DURHAM, N.H.  – Led by three-time All-American Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), a total of eight University of New Hampshire skiers were named to the NCAA All-Academic Team earlier this month. McNamara has been selected to the NCAA All-Academic Team all three years as a UNH Wildcat.
      Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec), Cynthia Tessier (Ste Julienne, Quebec) and Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) were UNH’s other repeat selections from the 2007 NCAA All-Academic Team. The Wildcats’ first-time honorees were Emily Capaul (Campton, N.H.), Emily Eastman (Intervale, N.H.), Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) and Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine).

ANCHORAGE, Alaska  — Katie Miller (Lenox, Mass.) and Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.), both of whom competed as freshmen on the University of New Hampshire ski team in 2008, recently competed at the U.S. Junior National competition.
      Miller competed in the Olympic Junior Girls 18-19 year old 5K freestyle race and completed the course in 16 minutes, 54.3 seconds to finish in fourth place. Harb raced in the Olympic Junior Boys 18-19 year old 10K freestyle event and was timed in 29:55.2 to finish in 16th place.

BOZEMAN, Mont. Aileen Farrell (Ottawa, Ontario) raced to a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s women’s slalom to earn All-America accolades in the final day of competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships at the University of Montana’s Bridger Bowl.
     UNH finished with a four-day total of 286 points to place 11th in the national championship, which featured 21 teams; New Hampshire also finished 11th in the ’07 NCAAs. The Wildcats’ men’s and women’s alpine squads each recorded the third-best team score in Saturday’s slalom races. All three women finished in the top 20 to earn 85 points while the men had two skiers in the top 15 and amassed 70 points.

BOZEMAN, Mont.Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire raced to 10th place Thursday in the giant slalom at the 2008 NCAA Skiing Championship to earn his third career All-America honors.

Through three days of competition, which included Nordic freestyle races on Wednesday and the mass start classic on Friday in addition to the giant slalom competition, UNH is in 14th place with 131 points.

McNamara, who was a two-time All-American in 2006, led the Wildcats’ alpine squad to the fourth-highest team score in the giant slalom with 70 points. He completed his first run in 51.54 seconds and second run in 49.57 for an overall time of 1:41.11.

DURHAM, N.H.  – The University of New Hampshire ski team will have a total of eight student-athletes, including All-America honorees Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec), Aileen Farrell (Ottawa, Ontario) and Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), competing at the 2008 NCAA Skiing Championships, which will be held March 5-8 at Montana State University’s Bridger Bowl (alpine) and  Bohart Ranch (Nordic).

The Wildcats, who placed 11th in last year’s national championship, will send a full allotment of six alpine skiers as well as two Nordic skiers. Joining Archambault-Leger, Farrell and McNamara on the alpine slopes will be Emily Capaul (Campton, N.H.), Michael Cremeno (Pembroke, N.H.) and Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.); Cynthia Tessier (Ste Julienne, Quebec) also qualified to compete. The Nordic races will include UNH’s Natasha Kullas (Timmins, Ontario) and Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.).

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.Veronique Archambault-Leger (Verdun, Quebec) placed second in both the slalom and giant slalom to garner All-East First Team honors and lead the University of New Hampshire ski team to a fourth-place finish at the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) Championships, which were hosted by Middlebury College from Feb. 22-23.
    In addition to receiving All-East First Team accolades, Archambault-Leger was feted as the Bogner Point Leader in Slalom as the women’s highest point scorer in that discipline. Three men’s alpine skiers – Michael Cremeno (Pembroke, N.H.), Willie Ford (Plymouth, N.H.) and Sean McNamara (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) — garnered All-East Second Team recognition, as did Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.) for her season-long efforts in the Nordic disciplines.
