UNH Cheerleading to hold fall tryouts

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Cheerleading program will hold fall try-outs for the 2013-2014 team on Sept. 16th at the UNH Fieldhouse.

Tryout Schedule

Fall tryouts for the 2013-14 UNH Cheerleading Team will be held Sept. 16th at the UNH Fieldhouse beginning in the gymnastics facility and ending in the indoor track. The tryout schedule will be as follows:

Sept. 16th

6:00 pm – 6:30 pm: Registration/$20 tryout fee
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm: Game day stunt practice
7:30 pm – 8:15 pm: Game day cheer practice (chants/fight song)
8:15 pm – 9:00 pm: Jumps/standing & running tumbling conditioning
9:00 pm—9:30 pm: Tryout wrap up

Tryout Requirements

Standing tumbling: toe touch double back handspring tuck and standing tuck
Running tumbling: specialty passes ending in at least a layout

 
Stunts:
Bases – Experience with full up/express up/tick tock
Back spots - Experience with full up/express up/tick tock
Flyers – Full range flexibility, aero double, experience with full up/express up/tick tock
 
Academic and Additional Requirements
Overall 2.5 GPA
Proof of UNH Enrollment**
Liability Waiver*

* Please note that potential participants under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign these documents as well. Without their signature, you will not be able to participate in tryouts.

**A class schedule will suffice as Proof of Enrollment.

Tryout Attire
Candidates should look game ready- collegiate image is an important part of the selection process. Please be tasteful in your selections. We are asking that everyone wear black shorts and a white top. NO WRITING ALLOWED ON SHIRTS! Cheerleading shoes are required. A hair bow is optional.

No jewelry (includes non-visible body jewelry) – YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IF CAUGHT WITH JEWELRY

Results
There is one cheerleading team at UNH (All-Girl). Placement on the team will be up to the discretion of the Head Coach and will depend on skill and team needs. Candidates who tryout will be notified via email on Tuesday, September 17th whether or not they have made the squad and will be expected to attend practice on Wednesday, September 18th.

Team Commitment
The information below outlines the commitment one agrees to make if selected for the 2013-14 UNH Cheerleading Team. The commitment can be demanding and is for the entire school year so please consider this carefully before trying out.

The UNH cheerleaders are a very dedicated team who pride themselves on not only being great cheerleaders but, also great role models within the campus and greater community. The primary role of the UNH Cheerleaders is to support UNH Athletics and to promote school spirit.

Games
The UNH cheerleaders support Football, and Men's and Women's Basketball. The UNH cheerleaders are expected to attend all home games for these sports including games over winter break. Twelve cheerleaders will be selected based on skill level, attendance, and academic standing to be part of a travel squad. The travel squad will travel to select away football games and select post-season football and basketball games, including the NCAA Tournament, if applicable.

Practices
During the fall semester practice will be held 3 times a week, on Sunday 9:00 am-12:00 pm. or Thursday 6:30 pm -9:00 pm, Monday 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm, Wednesday 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm. If class schedules conflict with practices, it is up the cheerleader to attempt to rearrange her schedule.

Fundraising
The team will be paying their way to NCA College Nationals this year. All athletes will be expected to attend mandatory fundraising events. There will be several required events including clinics, working UNH athletic events, and outside events.

Costs
The list below is an estimation of costs that a team member may incur for the season. This does not factor in the amount that each athlete will fundraise.
