New Hampshire field hockey falls to William & Mary, 4-1

NEW CANAAN, Conn. - The University of New Hampshire field hockey team fell to William & Mary, 4-1, at New Canaan High School on Saturday afternoon. UNH is now 2-3 overall and William & Mary improved to 5-0, including 3-0 against America East teams.

New Hampshire tied the game, 1-1, on a goal by senior captain Jessica Russell (Harrisville, R.I.) at 8:41 of the first half. Classmate Allie Lehmann (Granby, Conn.) and sophomore Kristen Weldon (Avon, Conn.) assisted on the goal, which came on a penalty corner.

William & Mary regained the lead 4:40 into the second half on a Jessica Jiao tally. Katie Uhran scored at 17:46 and 10:15 to extend the advantage to 4-1. Katie Silverthorne opened the game's scoring at 23:39 of the first half.

UNH senior goalkeeper Amy Agulay (London, Ontario) finished with 11 saves. Her counterpart, Nicole Whitfield, stopped three shots.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 12 (4 p.m.) at the University of Connecticut. The home opener is Sept. 22 vs. Drexel at 3:30 p.m.
