CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Carlie Tarbell (Wakefield, Mass.), a junior goalkeeper on the 20th-ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Tarbell recorded 11 first-half saves against 12th-ranked Stanford University to keep UNH tied 1-1 heading into halftime; she finished with 12 saves in that Sept. 6 game to match her career high for the second time this season. Tarbell then earned her first win of the year – a 3-1 victory – with a one-save effort against University of the Pacific on Sept. 8.
Tarbell, who received the conference Defensive Player of the Week award twice last year, has played all 310 minutes in goal this season. She opened the season with 12 saves against second-ranked University of Maryland on Aug. 31; Tarbell established that personal benchmark last October vs. fifth-ranked University of Virginia.
New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 13 for its home opener against Providence College. Game time at Memorial Field is 7 p.m. UNH also plays host to Northeastern University on Sept. 15 (2 p.m.).
