BALTIMORE – University of New Hampshire redshirt freshman gymnast Kelsey Aucoin (Double Oak, Texas) garnered the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week Award, the league announced Tuesday.
Aucoin, who missed the entire 2013 season due to a shoulder injury, has established herself as a three-event stalwart in the Wildcats' lineup this year. On Jan. 25 at Pittsburgh, she set a personal best with a 9.800 on vault to tie for third place. Aucoin added a 9.700 on balance beam to earn a share of sixth place, and she scored a 9.725 on floor exercise for seventh place.
Through three meets, Aucoin is ranked second among Wildcats on vault (9.775 average) and leads the team on bars (9.700 average). She becomes the second straight UNH gymnast to earn the EAGL Rookie of the Week award. Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) shared the honor with Chelsea Raineri of George Washington University on Jan. 21.
The Wildcats (2-3, 0-2 EAGL) welcome Maryland (1-2, 0-1 EAGL) to Lundholm Gym on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. for a dual-meet. It is a Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day followed by a Kids' Club clinic. For more information, visit www.unhwildcats.com or call (603) 862-4000, extension 5.
