BALTIMORE – The University of New Hampshire gymnastics team placed an East Atlantic Gymnastics League-leading 14 members and 74 percent of its roster on the EAGL All-Academic Team, the league announced Monday. Awards will be presented to the honorees at the 2014 EAGL Championship Banquet on Friday, March 21, at the Portsmouth Harbor Events and Conference Center in Portsmouth, N.H.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher or a combined 3.0 GPA from spring 2013 and fall 2013. Freshmen are eligible if they earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
The entire senior class is being feted for the fourth consecutive year: co-captains Hannah Barile (Sinking Spring, Pa./kinesiology: exercise science) and Erin Machado (Swansea, Mass./biomedical science), Jannelle Minichiello (Tewskbury, Mass./psychology) and Jillian Hudson (Sparkill, N.Y./nutrition).
Kayla Gray (Buffalo, N.Y.), a kinesiology: exercise science major, earned her third straight EAGL All-Academic Team award.
Two-time recipients include junior Adrienne Hill (Midlothian, Va./civil engineering) and sophomores Catarina Broccoli (Mystic, Conn./nutrition), Lauren Brodie (Mogadore, Ohio/environmental science), Cassy Izzo (Cranston, R.I./biomedical engineering), Brittany Prestia (Harleysville, Pa./nursing), Elissa Solomon (Ridgefield, Conn./kinesiology: exercise science) and Courtney Thompson (Chester, N.H./nursing).
UNH (14-4, 6-2 EAGL) will play host to the 2014 EAGL Championship at the Whittemore Center on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. The 23rd-ranked Wildcats will challenge George Washington, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Towson.
