CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior center Chris Pelcher (Albany, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was named America East Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Pelcher returned from a leg injury that kept him out 11 games to average 12.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks in two games last week for the Wildcats. The senior started the week with 11 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks during UNH's 60-56 win over Albany on Thursday, before notching 13 points, 14 rebounds, and a career-high seven blocks during the Wildcats' 61-32 triumph over UMass Lowell.
Pelcher takes home America East Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and the second time in his career. The center was previously named AE Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 18 following a pair of double-doubles in a win against Duquesne and a loss to NJIT.
In nine games this season, Pelcher is averaging 11.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks, the highest season averages of his career.
Pelcher and the Wildcats return to action Wednesday, Jan. 29 (7 p.m.) when they host the University of Maine for an America East Conference showdown at Lundholm Gymnasium. For tickets, visit www.unhwildcats.com or call (603) 862-4000, extension 5.
