Wildcat hockey picked fourth in national poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was selected fourth in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine preseason coaches poll on Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats received a total of 369 points, while the defending national champion Minnesota Golden Gophers (481 pts.) were tabbed as the team to beat garnering 25 of a possible 34 first place votes. The highest Hockey East team in the national poll was the Boston College Eagles, who were picked third with 439 points and three first-place votes.

Last season, the Wildcats finished second in the final poll with a 28-8-6 record. UNH made its second national title game appearance and fourth Frozen Four appearance in six years. The 'Cats also won both the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles for the second consecutive year.

UNH opens the season with an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 4 against the U.S. Select-18 Team. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m. The 'Cats open the regular season on Homecoming weekend, Saturday, Oct. 11 vs. Vermont at the Whittemore Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
