WAKEFIELD, MASS. – Senior captain Matt Fornataro (Calgary, Alberta) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Month for October. The announcement was made on Thursday morning by the league office.

The senior captain, who garnered HE Player of the Week earlier this week, becomes the first Wildcat to win the award since Kevin Regan (South Boston, Mass.) captured the honor back in January.

Fornataro is averaging 2.0 points per game and has tallied at least a goal in every game during the month of October. He's led the fourth-ranked Wildcats to their best start in four seasons. The senior forward tallied a goal and an assist in a critical Hockey East win at No. 18 Boston University to open the season and followed that up with two goals on Friday night and a goal and an assist on Saturday night during a weekend sweep of No. 4 Colorado College. Fornataro owns a three-game goal-scoring streak, the longest of his career and currently leads Hockey East in points per game (2.0) and goals per game (1.33).

The No. 4-ranked Wildcats (3-0-0) will face Northeastern (1-3-0) on Friday at Matthews Arena in Boston (7 p.m.) and will play host to the Huskies on Saturday (7 p.m.) at Whittemore Center.
