WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team garnered Hockey East's Team of the Week for its weekend sweep of a home-and-home series with UMass. The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the league office.
UNH earned its first conference wins with a home-and-home series sweep of UMass last weekend. The Wildcats earned a 4-1 win at the Whittemore Center on Friday, their first home win, and shut out the Minutemen on Saturday with a 9-0 road win. The last time UNH scored nine goals in a game was in a 9-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville on Nov. 26, 2011. A total of 14 different skaters recorded at least one point in Saturday's win, while Grayson Downing (Abbotsford, British Columbia) notched his second career hat trick in the effort. The Wildcats outscored the Minutemen 13-1 over the weekend and the UNH defense held UMass to one goal on 46 shots (2% shooting percentage).
New Hampshire (3-5-1, 2-2-0 HE) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 12 (7 p.m.) when it plays host to Brown University.
