AMHERST, Mass. - Erupting for three goals in the second half, the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory over the University of New Hampshire here this afternoon. The win improves the Minutemen to 3-3-0 on the year, while the Wildcats fall to 3-4-0.

UNH got on the board first in the 25th minute when senior Drew Ferrigno (Springfield, Mass.) headed a throw-in by sophomore captain Doug Lawver (Doylestown, Pa.) into the net. New Hampshire would carry the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The goal was Ferrigno's third of the season while the assist was Lawver's sixth. Lawver ranks among the national leaders in assists.

Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif.) would knot the game at 1 for the Minutemen when he scored in the 55th minute. Five minutes laster, Jeff Deren (Chicopee, Mass.) notched the game-winner on a cross from Fred Kinateder (Waukesha, Wisc.). Deren would add another goal at 64:08 to give UMass a 3-1 lead.

Junior Shaun O'Neil (Wrentham, Mass.) turned away four shots for the Wildcats, while Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) made four saves as well.

UNH returns to action next Saturday (9/30) when it hosts the University of Maine in the America East season-opener for both schools. Game time at Lewis Field is 2 p.m.
