DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending August 31. The team was announced Monday.

Hankard, a defender, was selected to the team after being named the Most Valuable Player at UNH's Nike Fall Soccer Classic for the second consecutive season this past weekend. He netted the game-winning goal in UNH's 1-0 win over Iona on Sunday that secured UNH's second consecutive tourney title, and also had a goal in the 'Cats 5-1 over St. Joseph's on Friday. He also anchored the defense that allowed just the one goal over two games.

Hankard's selection to the team marks the second time he has been chosen. Last season he was named to the squad after netting a pair of goals in a 3-2 win over eventual America East champion Northeastern on October 5. He was also an All-America Honorable Mention choice by College Soccer News last season in addition to collecting First Team America East and NSCAA All-New England honors.

New Hampshire returns to action this weekend with a pair of games at the Smith Barney Classic held at the University of Vermont. The Wildcats face North Carolina, a team ranked No. 10 nationally by College Soccer News on Friday then take on Vanderbilt on Sunday. The next UNH home game is September 27 when the 'Cats host Massachusetts at 4 p.m. at Bremner Field.
