Two Men’s Track Athletes Place at BU’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - Seniors Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.) and George Jumpp (Manchester, N.H.) earned top-eight finishes for the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team Saturday afternoon at the Boston Track and Tennis Center.

Souza opened the meet for the Wildcats by placing in the 500-meter race. Souza logged a personal-best time of 1-minute and 4.56-seconds to finish just .07 seconds ahead of the eighth place finisher, and .11 seconds in front of the ninth place racer. Freshman Tanner Kent (Amherst, N.H.) also placed in the top-25, taking 21st place with a mark of 1:05.57.

Jumpp posted the only other top-eight finish for the Wildcats during the meet, taking seventh in the weight throw. Jumpp scored a personal-best throw of 57-feet and 9.75 inches to earn seventh. Jake Renaud (Lancaster, N.H.) also competed in the event, earning 18th with a toss of 48-05.5 feet.

Isaiah Penn (Boston, Mass.) turned in a top-20 finish for UNH in the 400-meter dash, taking 18th overall. Penn posted a time of 48.60 seconds, finishing 1.71 seconds ahead of teammate Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, Mass.) who took 60th place with a time of 50.31 seconds.

Junior distance runner John Prizzi (Wyckoff, N.J.) and senior Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.) also notched personal-bests in the 3000-meter race for UNH. Prizzi claimed 15th place in a personal-record time of 8:14.17, while Moretti took 41st in a personal-best mark of 8:24.97.
