BOSTON, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team claimed fourth place with 42 team points at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
After totaling 10 points on day one, the Wildcats posted 32 points and one first place finish to take fourth place at the meet.
The Wildcats 4x800 relay team of Christopher Poggi (Dover, N.H.), Steve Souza (Fall River, Mass.), Eric Stys (Stitville, N.Y.), and Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) earned first place to take the New England title. The squad finished in a time of 7-minutes and 38.16-seconds to grab 10 points for UNH.
Piazza opened the individual events for the Wildcats with a third-place performance in the 800-meter race. Piazza clocked-in at 1:52.63 to take third and six points.
Sprinter Isaiah Penn (Boston, Mass.) registered a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash for UNH. The junior logged a time of 48.68 seconds to bring home four points.
The duo of Souza and Tyler Mulcahy (Weymouth, Mass.) both finished in the top-eight of the 500-meter dash. Souza finished fourth with a time of 1:04.28 and Mulcahy grabbed seventh in 1:05.30 for seven total points.
Poggi earned himself a top-eight finish in the 1,000-meter race. After qualifying with the top-time Friday, Poggi posted a time of 2:31.22 to take fifth in the finals on Saturday. With fifth, the freshman took four team points for the Wildcats.
Junior D'mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) closed out the meet with an eighth-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles. McFadden notched a time of 8.44-seconds to grab eight and one point for UNH.
