NEW ORLEANS – Junior distance runner John Prizzi (Wycoff, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track and field team was named the Northeast Region Track Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced Monday.
Prizzi earned the Northeast Track Athlete of the Year honor after logging a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event at the NCAA Regional Track and Field Championships on May 30th.
At the regional meet, Prizzi logged a school-record mark of 8 minutes and 42.20 seconds to claim fourth. The time bested his own school-record time of 8:47.30, which he recorded at Princeton University's Larry Ellis Invitational in April. With the time Prizzi secured himself a spot at the NCAA Championships on June 11.
Earlier this year the junior scored a first-place finish at the America East Conference Championships in the steeplechase. Prizzi notched a time of 9:06.44.
