BOSTON, MASS.- Buoyed by four first place finishes, the University of New Hampshire men's indoor track squad opened their season on a high note on Saturday, winning the three-team Snowflake Invitational at the Boston University Pavilion. The 'Cats took 94 points at the meet to edge out the host Terriers (93) by a single tally. Central Connecticut State University also competed at the meet and notched a third place finish with 69 points.
Craig Lange (Manchester, N.H.) finished first for the 'Cats in the 55-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.69 seconds to edge out Central Connecticut's Ariss Tiu (6.74 seconds). Tim Constant (Alexander, N.H.) also scored points in the event as he finished in 6.85 seconds to grab six place honors.
In the Triple Jump, William Field netted 13.92 meters to pace the field. Mike Tardiff grabbed a second place finish with 13.61 meters.
Greg Hillson (Glastonbury, Conn.) also picked up first place honors for UNH as he jumped 2.00 meters in the High Jump to win easily over BU's Jeff McAulay (1.78 meters). Field also performed well in this event, garnering a third place finish (1.78 meters).
New Hampshire's final first place finish was won in the 4x800 meter Relay, where the 'Cats (7:59.74) finished seven seconds ahead of BU (8:07.09).
The Wildcats will return to action this Saturday, December 14 when they host the University of Maine Black Bears at the Sweet Oval in Durham. The meet begins at 12 p.m.
