BOSTON- The University of New Hampshire men's track team traveled to the Boston University Pavilion this past weekend to compete in the New England indoor track and field championships. Junior Greg Taylor (Allentown, Pa.) carried the day for the 'Cats, as his fifth place finish in the triple jump earned him four of the Wildcats' eight and a half total points. The 8.50 total points put the 'Cats in 18th place in the 31-team field.
BOSTON, MASS.- Dan Hocking (Merrimack, N.H.), a senior distance runner on the University of New Hampshire track and field team, set a school record in the 3000 meter run this past weekend when he traveled to Boston University's Track and Tennis Center to compete in the Terrier Invitational. Hocking finished the event with a time of 8:05.43, shattering the six-year old UNH record previously held by Alan Bernier (8:09.98). The time also made Hocking a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships, which are scheduled to take place on March 14th and 15th on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Hocking's time placed him as the top collegian finisher in the event, and was good enough for fourth place overall.
BOSTON, MASS.- Buoyed by four first place finishes, the University of New Hampshire men's indoor track squad opened their season on a high note on Saturday, winning the three-team Snowflake Invitational at the Boston University Pavilion. The 'Cats took 94 points at the meet to edge out the host Terriers (93) by a single tally. Central Connecticut State University also competed at the meet and notched a third place finish with 69 points.
