KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire men's indoor track team took a third place finish at the Rhody Mega Meet this past weekend at the University of Rhode Island.
The Wildcats finished ahead of UMass-Amherst, Brown University, Quinnipiac University, Hartford University, Central Connecticut State University, and New Haven. Home team URI won the meet with a score of 214. Southern Connecticut State University took second with 131. UNH finished with 102 points.
Robert Edgerton (Cornish, N.H.) won the 1-mile run with a time of 4:15.61 and Brandon Williams (Hooksett, N.H.) won the 800-meter event in 1:56.98. Finishing just behind Williams in the 800 was William Smith (Hampstead, N.H.), who finished in 1:57.09. The 4x800-relay team also won for the Wildcats to add 10 points to their point total.
Travis Parker (Fairfax, Va.) placed in two events for UNH. Parker took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.01 seconds. He added a third place finish in the 200-meter event in a time of 22.83. James Myles (Merrimack, N.H.) finished two places behind Parker in the 200-meter event for fifth place. Myles also took a fifth place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, followed closely by Dave Benedetto (Alton, N.H.) who took sixth.
The 3000-meter event had three Wildcats place for points. Tony Truax (Dover, N.H.) was second in the event with a time of 8:30.47. Tim Perry (Bethel, Conn.) and Jeff Manley (Milton, Vt.) placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Tyler Danen (Oconomowoc, Wis.) added a fourth place finish for the Wildcats when he cleared 1.96 meters in the high jump. Erich Fiedler (Ludlow, Mass.) and Robert Stiles (Southbury, Conn.) placed third and sixth for the 'Cats in the 1-mile run. Fielder finished with a time of 4:20.66.
The Wildcats will host the University of Vermont Catamounts next weekend in their final home meet and last regular season meet of the year. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, February 12 at noon at the Sweet Oval.
