DURHAM, N.H. – The America East conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference announced recently that senior Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire’s men’s indoor track and field team was named the America East Field Performer of the Week, as well as ECAC Field Athlete of the Week for the final week of regular season competition, which ended Feb. 15.
Shaw jumped 23 feet, 10¼ inches to break the 67-year-old school record in the long jump at the Valentine Invite at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center on Feb. 14.
Shaw won the long jump, beating out over 50 other men at the meet, as his effort beat the previous benchmark of 23-7 set by A. Richard “Boo” Morcom in 1942. While at UNH, the senior captain has three times placed in the top three in America East Championships – twice during indoor competition and once in the outdoor season.
Shaw and the rest of the Wildcats return to action Feb. 20-21 for the America East Indoor Championship held at the Track and Tennis Center. Events begin Friday at 3 p.m. and conclude Saturday evening.
