HANOVER, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's outdoor track and field team placed eighth overall at the New England Championships Saturday at Dartmouth College.
Rhode Island won the meet with 155.50 points, while Dartmouth placed second and Williams was third overall. The Wildcats placed eighth out of 38 teams with overall 37.50 points.
The 4x800 meter relay team comprised of Ben Jenkins, Josh Kearns, David Nayes and Ben Danton raced to a win in a time of seven minutes, 37.52 seconds to capture the Wildcats top finish on the afternoon.
UNH earned points in the 3000-meter steeplchase as Matt Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) placed seventh (9:23.95), while teammate Andrew Lawson placed eighth in the 10000-meters (32:20.05) to round out the top distance performances.
UNH posted most of its points in the field events. Sophomore Spencer Shaw (Hampton, N.H.) registered a mark of 23-1.25 to take home fourth place in the long jump, while junior Matt Begley (Brookville, Md.) garnered fifth place in the pole vault (15-4.50). In the throwing events, junior Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) tallied a sixth place finish in the discus (151-8) and sophomore Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) delievered a personal-record in the hammer throw (175-0) en route to placing fourth overall. Freshman Chris Morgan notched a seventh place finish in the javelin (189-0).
