GAINESVILLE, Fla - Three members of the University of New Hampshire outdoor track and field teams recently competed at the prestigious NCAA Northeast Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Florida on Saturday. Juniors Cathy Parker (Westford, Mass.), Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.) and Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) each participated in their respective events and found success along the way.
Parker highlighted the trip of student-athletes on the weekend as the harrier raced to a seventh place effort in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:15.18. Parker defeated 35 other runners in the process. Parker won the steeplechase at the America East Championships on May 5. She also won the America East Cross Country Championships back in October en route to earning a spot in the NCAA National Champions were she placed 111th overall.
Quarles, who won the America East Championship in the 100-meter hurdles, was the lone respresenative in the America East as she raced to a 34th place finish (14.85).
Liset had arguably one of the most successful season's as a UNH thrower. He placed 17th overall in the discus (150-6) and fouled in the hammer throw during his stay in sunny Florida.
Liset won two events during the America East Championships on May 5. He tallied victories in both the hammer throw (184-6) and in the discus (173-1), besting his own school record during the America East Championships. He was named America East “Field Performer of the Meet.”
