WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATED BY HARTFORD, 65-48

WEST HARTFORD, CT (Jan. 22) - The University of Hartford women's basketball team picked up its third straight win with a 65-48 victory over New Hampshire in America East action on Saturday at Chase Family Arena.

The Hawks, who won their eighth straight home game, improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in America East to remain tied atop the conference standings with Vermont. New Hampshire dropped its third straight and slipped to 7-8 and 3-3.

Danielle Wexler led the way for Hartford with a team-high 13 points on four of seven shooting. Wexler hit three of five attempts from three-point range and handed out four assists. Ikea Witt added 11 points, a team-high six rebounds and a career-high five assists. The Hawks combined for a season-high 20 assists on 24 field goals.

Hartford took a 23-11 lead on a Wexler four-point play with 6:58 left in the first stanza and ended the half on a 10-3 run to take a comfortable 33-14 advantage into the break.

UNH outscored the Hawks 17-9 in the opening eight and a half minutes of the second half to cut the lead to 11 on two free throws by Ray Williams with 11:19 remaining. The Hawks responded with a 17-6 run and the Wildcats never got closer than 15 points for the rest of the way.

The Hawks shot a season-high 53 percent (9-for-17) from three-point range, knocking down a season-high nine threes. Hartford shot 41 percent from the field and held UNH to 31 percent shooting on 15 field goals. On the defensive end the Hawks forced 20 Wildcat turnovers and swiped a season-high 12 steals.

Danielle Hood chipped in nine points and five boards for the Hawks while Erika Messam finished with eight points and four assists.

New Hampshire's Lindsay Adams led all scorers with 18 points on seven of 13 shooting to finish as the only Wildcat in double figures.

New Hampshire returns home for the first time in two weeks to face the Boston University Terriers on Wednesday, January 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
