ALBANY N.Y.- Kristin Higy of Albany, with 21 points, propelled the Great Danes past the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team , 75-68, on Wednesday evening at SEFCU Arena. Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine) was named the America East Player of the Game for the Wildcats with 12 points and 11 rebounds. With the loss the Wildcats drop to 8-16, 3-10 in the America East, while the Great Danes end an eight game losing streak and improve to 8-19, 4-10.
Higy led the way for the Great Danes in the first half, scoring 12 of Albany’s 29 points. Racheal Fowler (Glassboro, N.J.) scored the final six points for the Wildcats in the first half to give them a slight lead (28-27), but Higy hit a jumper with 49 seconds remaining to give the Great Danes the one point advantage entering the locker room (29-28).
Clark notched all of her 12 points and 10 of her 11 rebounds during the second half of play for her fourth double-double on the season. The Great Danes enjoyed a 66.7 shooting percentage from the floor in the second half. Three additional Great Danes posted double-digits.
Amy Simpson (Waterford, Conn.) drained four 3-pointers en route to a 14 point performance to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Whitney Edwards (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) posted 12 points and matched her career high with eight assists for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats return to action at home Sat., Feb. 24 against Boston University. Gametime at Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m. and will be broadcasted on the UNH Sports Network. Prior to the game New Hampshire will honor five Wildcat seniors.
