CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team has been tabbed as the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
This is the first weekly award Belanger has won in her collegiate career. The weekly accolade is the second that the Wildcats have garnered this season. Freshman guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) was named America East Rookie of the Week on Jan. 6.
Belanger averaged 18 points and 5.5 rebounds in a pair of wins for UNH in the week.
In a 74-73 win against the University of Maine (Jan. 29), the sophomore guard matched her career-high with 20 points, including the game-winning floater with 0.9 seconds left in regulation. Furthermore, Belanger set a new career-high in steals with four swipes.
Posting a 72-53 victory against Binghamton University (Feb. 2), Belanger paced the Wildcats in scoring and on the glass with 16 points and seven rebounds. In addition, she dished out a personal-best five assists.
This season, the sophomore guard has averaged 9.6 points per game and a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per game.
