DURHAM, N.H. -- University of New Hampshire director of athletics Marty Scarano announced Wednesday that women's basketball head coach Maureen Magarity has agreed to a five-year contract extension.
In four seasons at New Hampshire, Magarity has led the Wildcats to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the America East tournament. Most recently, the fourth-year head coach guided the Wildcats to a personal-best 19-12 overall record and 12-4 in conference play, the most wins in a single season since the 1998-99 season (19-8, 13-5 AE).
Magarity quickly has made a positive impact on the program with a pair of winning seasons in her four years at UNH. In comparison, New Hampshire was a combined 33-87 the four years prior to her arrival. In just her second year at the helm, she guided the Wildcats to their second postseason appearance (beyond conference postseason play) in the program's 37-year history when UNH advanced to the 2012 Women's Basketball Invitational. New Hampshire finished the 2011-12 year with a 16-14 overall record to mark the team's first winning season since 2006 and most wins since 2002.
In the classroom, her student-athletes have been named to the America East Honor Roll 26 times, including 15 to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Furthermore, two of her players have been named to the conference's All-Academic team, most recently junior forward Kaylee Kilpatrick (Saint John, New Brunswick) this past season.
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to continue to be a part of the UNH family," said Magarity. "I am so thankful for the leadership and support of president Mark Huddleston and director of athletics Marty Scarano. This is an exciting time for women's basketball at UNH and we look forward to building on a winning tradition, recruiting and developing outstanding young women for the future."
