DURHAM, N.H.  – The University of New Hampshire women’s hockey team continues its seven-game homestand Thanksgiving weekend with the UNH Tournament, which pits Hockey East against the College Hockey America (CHA) and features three teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation. The tourney is Nov. 24-25 with games at 4 & 7 p.m. both days at the Whittemore Center.
    The tournament begins Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. when ninth-ranked Boston College (9-1-1 overall) out of Hockey East faces off against Mercyhurst College (10-1-1). UNH (12-1-1) puts its 31-game home unbeaten streak of 27-0-1 on the line at 7 p.m. against Wayne State University (5-7-0) out of the CHA.
    Day two begins with BC against Wayne State, and the tourney concludes with a battle for the No. 2 national ranking – UNH vs. Mercyhurst. The Wildcats are ranked second in the USA Today/ USA Hockey Poll and third in the USCHO.com Poll; the Lakers are currently No. 2 in the USCHO.com Poll and third in the USA Today/USA Hockey Poll.
    The three nationally-ranked teams boast a combined record of 31-3-3. UNH has a 3-1-1 record against nationally-ranked teams this season; MC is 3-1-0 and BC is 1-1-1 against such opponents.
    Friday’s game will mark the first meeting between the UNH and Wayne State women’s hockey programs. New Hampshire has a 4-2-1 lifetime record vs. Mercyhurst. The ‘Cats recorded a 2-1 victory last year at the Whittemore Center, but the Lakers were 4-0 victors in the 2004 UNH Thanksgiving Tournament.
