LAVOIE SELECTED BAUER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY WOMEN'S HOCKEY EAST
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Kristina
Lavoie (Fonthill, Ontario), a freshman forward on the
third-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey
team, was selected Bauer Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on
Monday.
Lavoie broke a 3-3 tie with 5:30 remaining in the game and also
scored an empty-net goal to lift UNH to a 5-3 victory against
ninth-ranked Northeastern University at Fenway Park. The Wildcats
entered the third period trailing 3-1, but rallied to record the
win in the first women’s college hockey outdoor game. The two
goals matched Lavoie’s career high.
This marked Lavoie’s second league award this season. She was
honored as the league’s Player of the Month for December.
In 19 games this season, Lavoie has tallied eight goals and eight
assists for 16 points to rank No. 9 in the nation in rookie scoring
(0.84 points per game). She is tied for third on the team in goals
and is also fourth in both points and plus/minus (+8). Among
UNH’s nine multiple-goal scorers, Lavoie has the
second-highest shooting percentage (.170). She has a point in 9 of
19 games with five multiple-point efforts. In her current
three-game point-scoring streak, Lavoie has tallied six points (4g,
2a).
New Hampshire (13-2-4 overall, 7-1-1-0) returns to action this
weekend with a home-and-home series against Providence College. The
Wildcats play host to the Friars at the Whittemore Center on Jan.
16 (2 p.m.), and the game is part of Hockey East’s
“Skating Strides Against Breast Cancer” fund raising
initiative.
