WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Jessica Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), a senior forward on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Warrior Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Hitchcock recorded four points with three goals and an assist in last weekend's two-game series against Providence College to factor in four of the team's five goals. She matched her career highs in both goals (two) and points (three) to propel UNH to a 4-1 victory at the Whittemore Center last Friday, Jan. 10.
In that game, she broke a 1-1 tie at 2:50 of the third period with what proved to be the game-winning goal, and she scored an empty-net goal with 32 seconds remaining to secure the victory. Hitchcock scored the Wildcats' lone goal the next night at Schneider Arena.
In 21 games this season, Hitchcock has recorded six goals and seven assists for 13 points to rank second on the squad in all three statistics. She also leads the team in plus/minus rating at +6 and is third in shots with 65. Hitchcock has recorded a point in 10 of 21 games with two multiple-point efforts – she tallied two assists Oct. 26 at Penn State University.
Hitchcock, who is a second-year Wildcat after spending two years at Niagara University, has compiled 33 goals and 33 assists for 66 points in 120 games played.
New Hampshire (8-11-2 overall, 3-4-2 Hockey East) returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home series against the University of Connecticut. UConn is the home team Jan. 18 and the teams face off again Jan. 19 at the Whittemore Center; both games begin at 2 p.m.
