~Senior Melissa Lague sets pool records in 100 and 200 yard backstroke~
DURHAM, N.H.-- Senior Melissa Lague (Salem, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire women's swimming team set two pool records to lead the team to victory over Northeastern University at Swasey Pool on Monday afternoon, 170-130.
With the win, the Wildcat women's program owns a perfect record at 7-0 to start the season.
Lague set pool records in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.76 seconds and in the 200 yard backstroke at 2:02.83. Lague also continued her day with a first-place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 3:37.51.
The Wildcats took home first place finishes in every event except the butterfly and the diving portion of the meet.
Lague also played a part in the 200 yard individual medley relay first place finish with a time of 1:48.36, along with the freshman trio of Christine Tartaglia (Brewster, N.Y.), Deanna Petchonka (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Catie McDonough (Denville, N.J.) in the 200 yd medley relay.
McDonough helped pace the 'Cats with victories in the 50 yard freestyle (24.97) and the 100 yard freestyle (53.93).
In the 1000 yard freestyle, freshman Brittany Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y.) earned the win for the Wildcats (10:35.75), while her sister junior Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y.) was victorious in the 200 yard freestyle (1:54.91). Shannon also placed first in three other events: the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.83, the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:20.48 and the 500 yard freestyle with a 5:08.97 mark. The Daly sisters earned five first-place finishes for the Wildcats in Monday's meet vs. Northeastern.
The Wildcat women's swim team returns to action on Saturday, January 22 at Rhode Island. Meet time is 1 p.m.
