CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Jenni Roberts (Springvale, Maine) and junior Nicole Zahka (Medway, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's swimming & diving team claimed America East Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference.
This marks the second time UNH has swept the weekly awards this season (Jenna Bull (Woodstock, New Brunswick) and Zahka, Oct. 15). In addition, New Hampshire is bestowed its third different conference Swimmer of the Week (Bull, Oct. 15, Lauren McCandless (Prince George, British Columbia), Oct. 22).
Roberts notched a trio of first-place individual wins, fueling the Wildcats to a 167-128 victory over Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Competing in the 200-yard individual medley, Roberts touched the wall at 2 minutes 4.53 seconds, breaking a 17-year Swasey Pool mark set by former Oyster River High School and Stanford standout Jessica Tucker-Mohl.
Roberts' other top finishes included the 100-yard backstroke (56.61) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.06). Additionally, the reigning America East Swimmer of the Year and ECAC co-Swimmer of the Year was part of the leading quartet in the 400-yard medley relay, which clocked in at 3:48.70.
Currently, Roberts' 200-yard individual medley ranks 29th in the most recent CollegeSwimming.com standings, she is positioned 67th in the 100-yard backstroke and 64th in the 100-yard butterfly.
Zahka recorded personal bests in both the one- (247.20 points-third place) and three-meter (250.40-second). Additionally, Zahka garnered her second conference Diver of the Week award of the 2013-14 campaign.
New Hampshire returns to action Saturday, Nov. 2 when the Wildcats travel to Central Connecticut in a tri meet to take on the Blue Devils and Bryant.
