Purrier and Lavallee Earn First Place Finishes at Joe Donahue Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman distance runner Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) and multi-events athlete  Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) each recorded a first place finish as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed at the Joe Donahue Invitational Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Purrier recorded a 4-minute 48.45-second time to claim first in the mile race. Teammate Sarah Kieran (Rowley, Mass.) also registered a fifth-place finish in the event, clocking-in at 5:00.05.

Lavallee claimed first place with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles. The junior notched a time of 8.95 to take the top spot in the event.

Sophomore sprinter Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) posted a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash. Perrodin, who set the school record in the 55-meter dash earlier this year, posted a 7.74 time to earn second.

Two more Wildcats placed in the 800-meter race. Freshman Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) placed fourth with a time of 2:16.93, while classmate Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) crossed the line in eighth (5:00.05).

UNH also placed in a pair of relays at the meet. The 4x400 relay team claimed fourth place with a 4:05.58 showing, while the 4000-meter distance medley relay team finished second with a time of 12:11.02.

The Wildcats excelled in field events during the meet, with junior Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) and Lavallee both placing in the high jump. Salley took 2nd with a measurement of 1.65 meters, while Lavallee finished fifth with a 1.55m mark.

Senior captain Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) followed with an eighth place finish in the long jump. Bonsaint logged a top jump of 5.13m to claim the eighth spot.

A pair of throwers also placed for UNH. Junior Abby Huntress (Saco, Maine) launched an 11.56 toss to earn sixth place in the shot put, while Senior Bacall Liset (Dover, N.H.) earned seventh in the weight throw with a 14.35m best.
The UNH women's track and field team returns to action Saturday, February 1st when it competes at the Rhode Island Invitational at Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, R.I.
