KINGSTON, R.I. – The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team earned 74 points and placed in 10 events on the way to fourth place at the URI Coaches Meet on Saturday afternoon at Mackal Fieldhouse.
Freshman distance runner Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) claimed the only individual victory for UNH, capturing first in the 800-meter race. Purrier posted a ECAC/IC4A and New England qualifying time of 2:13.42 to earn first.
Senior captain Caroline Bonsaint (Hampton, N.H.) opened the meet for the Wildcats with a seventh place finish in the long jump. Bonsaint registered a 16-foot, 11.50-inch jump to earn two points for UNH. Jessica Salley (Andover, Mass.) also placed in a jumping event, earning fourth in the high jump. Salley measured in at 5-feet and 5-inches to earn fifth points for UNH.
Senior Bryn Estes (Lebanon, N.H.) and junior Rachel DePalma (Orange, Conn.) followed by placing in the pole vault. Estes took sixth with a measurement of 9-10.00 and DePalma claimed eighth with a vault of 9-04.25.
Senior Bacall Liset (Dover, N.H.) and Abby Huntress (Saco, Maine) also took top spots in a field event for the Wildcats, taking eighth in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put, respectively. Liset measured a toss of 48-feet and 8-inches to earn eighth, while Huntress posted a toss of 39-01.25 for seventh.
Junior Virginia Lavallee (Kingston, N.H.) earned the first points for the Wildcats in track events. Lavallee captured three points by taking sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds.
DePalma followed Lavallee's performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a seventh-place finish in the 500-meter dash. The junior clocked in at 1:21.21 to earn two points for the Wildcats.
Two Wildcats claimed top-eight spots in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Allison Brehm (Pembroke, N.H.) took second (7.77 seconds) and fourth (7.88 seconds), respectively to earn 13 points for UNH. Brehm also took eighth in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 26.10 seconds.
Two more UNH athletes followed by placing in the 800-meter race. Sophomore Cassie Kruse (Hampshire, Ill.) placed fifth in 2:18.41, while freshman Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) earned seventh in 2:19.11 for six total points.
UNH took three of the top four spots in the 1000-meter race. Freshman Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.), senior Elise Beattie (Woodstock, Ill.), and freshman Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) earned second, third, and fourth to claim 19 points for the Wildcats. Kimball earned second (2:55.74), Beattie finished third (2:58.95), and Keiran crossed the finish line in fourth (2:59.27).
Freshman Katherine Estep (Plaistow, N.H.) was the lone Wildcat to place in the 3000-meter race. Estep earned two points by placing seventh (11:01.10) in the event.
Brehm and Perrodin closed out the meet for the Wildcats by helping the 4x400 relay to third place. Brehm, Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.), Taylor Ordway (Plaistow, N.H.), and Perrodin timed in a 4:10.03 to earn the final six points of the meet for UNH.
