Boston, Mass.-- The University of New Hampshire women’s track and field team traveled to Northeastern on Friday to compete in the Husky Invitational. The Wildcats came home with 23 points and a seventh place finish in the meet that saw the University of Connecticut take home the top honors with 89 points.
The highlight of the meet for the Wildcats was a record-setting performance by the distance medley relay team of Katie Litwinowich (Holden, Mass.), Valerie WilIiams (Merrimack, N.H.), Jaimie Falcon (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) and Amy DeCamp (Londonderry, Mass.). They broke a long standing UNH record in the relay event with a time of 11 minutes, 54.02 seconds besting the previous mark of 12:02.5 seconds set back in 1984.
Individually the Wildcats were led by Williams, who finished sixth in the 400- meter final (59.69) and eighth in the 200-meter final (26.34). In other events for the Wildcats, Amie McDonnell (Lebanon, N.H.) finished eighth in the 55-meter final (7.54) and Erin Fitzpatrick (Nashua, N.H.) finished eighth in the 800-meter final (2:26.04).
The ‘Cats are back in action on February 5th when they travel to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green.
