UNH Women’s Indoor Track Wins Three Team Meet at Maine

ORONO, MAINE - The University of New Hampshire women's indoor track team won their meet at the University of Maine. They beat Central Connecticut (86 points) and narrowly edged the Blackbears (131) with a team score of 132 for the win.

Six Wildcats won events for UNH to propel them to victory. Chelsea Corr (East Greenbush, N.Y.) won the 1 mile run with a time of 5:16.36. Nicole Whalen (Warwick, N.Y.) took home the victory in the 800-meter event, finishing with a time of 2:19.23. Heather Carmichael (Windsor, Vt.) took the victory in the 3000-meter run. She won with a time of 10:36.25. Lauren Tebbetts (Waterville, Maine) won the pole vault, clearing 3.20 meters. Jessica Descartes (Randolph, Mass.) won the weight throw event, tossing for 14.42 meters, just ahead of teammate, Amanda Cmielewski (Englishtown, N.J.) who took second with a throw of 13.60 meters. With a jump of 5.44 meters, Kiah Quarles (Derry, NH) tied for first in the long jump competition.

Kelly McCloskey (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Chloe Harry (Tyler, Texas), Whalen, and Corr teamed up to win the 4x880 relay event, finishing in 4:11.07. The 4x440 relay team took a second place finish. Kimberly Usseglio (Watertown, Mass.), Brielle Thomas (Salem, N.H.), Kari Arnet (St. Charles, Ill.), and Kristen Meisner (Nashua, N.H.) combined to finish in 9:57.76.

The 400-meter dash saw two Wildcats in the top three. Kristen Kowalski (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Meisner placed second and third, respectively.

Numerous Wildcats took second place finishes. Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) finished in second place in the 500-meter event with a time of 1:20.70. McCloskey finished just behind fellow Wildcat Whalen in the 800-meter run. The 1000-meter event saw Catherine Parker (Westford, Mass.) take a second place finish. Sarah Patsos (Meriden, Conn.) took second place in the 3000-meter event. Kathleen Hoppe (Hopkinton, Mass.) was second in the triple jump.

Adding to her tie for first, Quarles finished second in the 60-yard hurdles with Hoppe nipping at her heels, finishing fourth in the event.

Meisner, placing in her third event, took third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.13. Cmielewski also placed in multiple events, taking a third place in the shot put. Amy Roccio (Beverly, Mass.) tied for third in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters.

The Wildcats are back on the road next weekend when they travel to take on the University of Rhode Island on February 5th. Meet time is set for 11:00 a.m.
