CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Six student-athletes from the University of New Hampshire men’s and women’s track and field teams were recently named to the America East All-Academic team based on their athletic and academic achievements.

Senior Jordan Horwitz (Evanston, Ill.) and sophomore Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) were two of the 14 athletes from the men’s side to be honored based on their on and off the field success.

In the classroom, Horwitz posted a 3.2 grade point average, while Dinnan had a 3.3 GPA for the fall semester. Both athletes qualified for the award in the same event, finishing first and second, respectively, in the 5,000 meters at the America East Championships on Feb. 23. Horwitz finished in a time of 14 minutes, 42.09 seconds, while Dinnan finished in 14:46.24.

 On the women’s side, UNH had four of the 25 student-athletes that were named to the squad. Sophomore Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) and seniors Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.), Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) and Amy Roccio (Beverly, Mass) were each honored as they had GPAs of 3.6, 3.02, 3.8 and 3.39, respectively.

Ciambra won a conference title in the pole vault when she tied her own school record with a leap of 3.60 meters.

Quarles placed second in the 55 meter hurdles at the conference championships, finishing in a time of 8.22 seconds, which is her personal best.

Haley grabbed a conference crown in the 1,000 meter run, finishing in a time of 2:51.22.

Roccio compiled 3,293 points to become a conference champion in the pentathlon. Roccio was second in the 55 meter hurdles (8.71s) and the high jump (1.63m), sixth in the shot put (8.94m) and third in the long jump (5.05m) and 800 meter run (2:35.23). Thomas won the 800 meters in a time of 2:29.38.
           
In order to be considered a member of the All-Academic squads, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 entering the season. For track and field, student-athletes must finish in the top three at the conference championship meet.
