BOSTON – Junior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) finished first in the weight throw by breaking a school record to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s indoor track and field team at the Husky Winter Carnival on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center in the team’s season-opener.

Lathrop registered a toss of 54 feet, 4.75 inches, breaking her own school record of 54-3.75 that she set last year. The mark qualifies Lathrop for the ECAC Championships. Seniors Erica Desroches (Stratham, N.H.) and Amy Malsbenden (Bow, N.H.) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, with throws of 45-5 and 42-9.75.

Junior Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) placed first in the pole vault with an ECAC-Championship qualifying leap of 11-11.75.

In the 500 meters, sophomore Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) finished first in a time of one minute, 17.99 seconds. Sophomore Catherine Perella (Bedford, N.H.) was fifth in a time of 1:20.01, while sophomore Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia) was ninth in 1:21.43.

In the 400 meters, last year’s Most Outstanding Rookie in sophomore Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) placed second with a time of 59.07 seconds.

Sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) finished second in the mile, submitting a time of 5:09.16. Sophomore Katherine Chwasciak (Webster, N.H.), freshman Megan Murnane (Byram, N.J.), junior Amanda Rusilas (Charlton, N.Y.) and freshman Ann McCarthy (Yakima, Wash.) placed eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively, in times of 5:37.79, 5:41.02, 5:41.53 and 5:41.99.

In the triple jump, sophomore Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Eliza Mackintosh (Hanover, N.H.) finished second and third, respectively, recording leaps of 37-10 and 36-4.75.

Sophomore Lindsey Jeltes (Oakland, N.J.) finished fifth in the 800 meters, crossing the line at 2:23.84. Junior Nicole Wrobel (Bedford, N.H.) was eighth in 2:30.15.

Junior Tayla Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.64 seconds.

The Wildcats placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:03.58. Sophomore Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.), freshman Courtney Prescott (Hollis, N.H.), junior Ciara Camire (Beverly, Mass.) and Kwiecien made up the squad.

In the 1,000 meters, sophomore Jennifer Racine (Haverhill, Mass.) placed ninth in 3:12.81.

Senior Sarah Hall (Nottingham, N.H.) finished 12th in the 200 meters in a time of 26.42 seconds.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 at noon when they open the newly renovated Paul Sweet Oval by hosting the University of Maine.
