HANOVER, N.H. – Sophomore Camille Quarles (Derry, N.H.) won a pair of events to lead the University of New Hampshire women’s indoor track and field team to a second-place finish at a Dartmouth College quad meet Saturday afternoon at the Leverone Field House.
With 60 points, the Wildcats finished ahead of the University of Vermont (53) and Quinnipiac University (6), but behind Dartmouth (66).
Quarles was victorious in the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 11.50 inches, beating the runner-up by a foot and a half. Freshman Eliza Mackintosh (Hanover, N.H.) and junior Esperence Ndombe (Manchester, N.H.) were fourth and fifth, respectively, with leaps of 36-4.25 and 36-1.25. Quarles also won the long jump with a mark of 17-4.75. Sophomore Meghan McGrath (Merrimack, N.H.) and Mackintosh were second and fourth, respectively, with jumps of 17-1.50 and 16-10.
Junior Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.) finished first in the pole vault by clearing a height of 12-6, six inches more than the runner-up.
Sophomore Allison Letourneau (Kingston, Nova Scotia) won the 800 meters in a time of two minutes, 18.97 seconds, more than a second faster than the next closest finisher.
Fellow sophomore Erica Jesseman (Scarborough, Maine) placed first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:20.34, over two seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. Seniors Kim Povec (Holland-Patent, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 10:37.54 and 10:45.20.
Senior Sarah Hall (Nottingham, N.H.) finished second in a pair of events. Hall was runner-up in the 60 meters, finishing in 7.82 seconds, just nine-hundredths of a second off the pace. McGrath was third in 8.19 seconds. Hall was also second in the 200 meters in 25.62 seconds, 11-hudredths of a second behind the winner. Sophomore Chelsey Canavan (Stoneham, Mass.) placed fourth in 26.76 seconds.
Sophomore Kaitlin Kwiecien (Hampstead, N.H.) ran to a second-place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 59.36 seconds.
Junior Tayla Ryan (Norwood, Mass.) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.27 seconds. Freshman Jacky Mendes (Dayton, Maine) was fourth in 9.67 seconds.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Wildcats’ “A” team finished second in a time of 4:00.40. The “B” team was fourth at 4:08.69. In the 4x800, the ‘Cats placed third in 9:43.24.
Junior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) recorded a second-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 56-8. Seniors Amy Malsbenden (Bow, N.H.) and Erica Desroches (Stratham, N.H.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with throws of 45-3.50 and 44-11.75. Lathrop also finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 36-11.50. Seniors Sarah Crane (Londonderry, N.H.) and Desroches were fourth and fifth, respectively, with throws of 38-1.50 and 37-5.
Back on the track, freshman Elizabeth Campbell (Colonia, N.J.) finished third in the mile with a time of 5:12.67.
Freshman Keely Maguire (Georgetown, Mass.) was also third in the 1,000 meters, finishing in a time of 2:58.26.
In the 500 meters, sophomores Catherine Perella (Bedford, N.H.) and Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with finishes of 1:19.06 and 1:19.54.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center.
